Shopping Centre Atrium Smoke Ventilation | Brakel Airvent

Shopping Centre Atrium Smoke Ventilation

Airvent design and install for Shopping Centre

Constructed in 1997, The Mall at Cribbs Causeway Bristol is a 995,000ft2 shopping centre with over 130 retail outlets across two levels. As one of the largest shopping centres in the whole of the South West, The Mall receives over 14 million visitors a year – with the number expected to rise thanks to recent expansion plans.

Airvent was chosen thanks to its experience in refurbishing existing smoke control systems and providing a comprehensive maintenance service for systems installed and maintained by any supplier.

The Mall shopping centre Atrium project required the refurbishment of a bespoke smoke control system that had originally been installed by a different company and comprised of 180 atrium-mounted smoke ventilators.

Airvent was initially contracted to provide maintenance after the original installer ceased trading. This eventually led to a major refurbishment project to improve the system’s reliability spanning over the course of three years.

As with any smoke control system maintenance, Airvent ensured that while maintenance was taking place the old system remained operable at all times – assuring safety was the highest priority.

“Despite not being the original installer, Airvent was able to refurbish and maintain the existing smoke control system to dramatically improve its reliability and efficiency.”
