Royal Mail sorting hub in Mount Pleasant
A busy mail-sorting environment in a recently refurbished building that’s over a century old.
One of the largest sorting offices in the world, the 120 year old Mount Pleasant sorting office acts as a national hub for mail distribution and features large systems of machinery and – of course – potentially flammable letters and parcels.
Brakel Airvent was appointed to a major £32m upgrade of the facility, developing smoke control system refurbishments and upgrades in addition to ongoing maintenance on the site operated by 750 staff.
Stage 1 – Installation of jet fans for basement service yard for both environmental air management (via CO detectors) and smoke ventilation (via alarm system). We undertook design, installation, commission and maintenance.
Stage 2 – Installation of ducted local extract to improve working environment for operatives with additional CO detection. We undertook design, installation, commission and maintenance.
All works were successfully undertaken without causing disruption to the vital ongoing work of the sorting office. Our maintenance work means the systems will operate at optimum efficiency with whole life savings over time.
