Giovanni brings CFD in-house

Gio is certainly qualified for his role in fire engineering and CFD design work, with an International Master of Fire Safety Engineering (IMFSE) qualification from Gent University (Belgium – a leading institution concerning fluid dynamics and heat transfer), Lund University (Sweden – a major university leading in the field of Human behaviour in fire conditions and Fire dynamics) and the University of Edinburgh (one of the most important universities in the field of fire resistance and structural fire design). He is also a member of the IFE (institution of fire engineers) and a regular at the IAFSS (International Association for Fire Safety Science).

Gio explains his role: “I review fire strategies, designing smoke ventilation systems, general fire safety consulting and checking projects’ code compliance (I have an extended knowledge of British Standards BS9999, BS7346, BS12101, BS5588, ADB, ADF, RRO2005, Building Acts, CIBSE and SCA guidelines and so on.

“When a new project lands in Airvent, I’m the person that checks all the relevant details in order to properly design a smoke ventilation system by keeping an eye on other fire safety aspects (i.e. fire doors, sprinkler systems, means of egress, etc.).”

For our customers this means that our in-house design function is greatly strengthened, and most importantly that our CFD (computational fluid dynamics) work on predicting smoke flow – and therefore system design – can now be done in-house. This reduces our turnaround time and allows for alterations and amendments to systems to be checked immediately and refined accordingly. A smoother experience for our customers with full consideration to safety and legislative compliance: that’s the Brakel Airvent way.
