Underground
car parks
Car Park Ventilation systems. Open-sided car parks often benefit from natural ventilation, but those that are enclosed or underground car park present significant smoke ventilation challenges.
Each structure design presents different challenges to which Airvent's flexible approach can be adapted. All of Airvent's fan systems are accredited to EN 12101-3:2003, meaning each unit is capable of operating at temperatures of 300C for up to two hours.
Our car park ventilation designs (including using Impulse Ventilation and our Jet / Impulse fans called Guardian and Sentry) take into account airflow around obstructions, CCTV line-of-sight and ceiling clearance to provide the ideal smoke control and smoke clearance solution.
Multi-storey apartment
buildings
In an apartment building fire, the smoke control system must make fire fighters’ difficult job easier by improving visibility and providing clear fire-fighting areas such as shafts and lobbies; even if fire doors are employed throughout, it can still be easy for smoke to spread quickly throughout a building as residents make their escape.
In addition, day-to-day corridor ventilation can make conditions more comfortable in common areas, and a dual-purpose smoke control system could even be viewed as a selling point when attracting tenants.
To ensure smoke safety, Airvent can offer a ShaftMaster design service, created from various ventilation products while saving valuable lettable space for building designers and owners.
Single-storey factories
and warehouses
Busy factories are often noisy and may contain dangerous combustibles and difficult-to-pass areas, meaning quick acting smoke control systems are vital if a safe escape route is to be maintained.
Production downtime following a fire can cost more than building repairs, and many businesses struggle to recover after such an event.
Multi-level shopping
centres
Retail and commercial buildings - especially multi-level shopping centres and offices with atria - are often very busy and feature mezzanines, complicating smoke safety issues. Smoke can travel faster than many pedestrians, and if not properly ventilated the smoke will first rise to the ceiling, spread laterally and then pool dangerously back downwards making poor visibility for the occupants trying to escape and potentially restricting escape routes.
To ensure smoke safety, Airvent can offer a ShaftMaster design service, creating a life safety system from various ventilation products while saving valuable lettable space for building designers and owners.
The Airvent Solution
Airvent Car Park Ventilation system use axial impulse Sentry or centrifugal induction Guardian fans instead of traditional ducted systems, impacting less on the aesthetics and structure of the car park and in some cases removing the need for expensive sprinklers. Less ducting in the Car Park means less air resistance, resulting in better smoke clearance, so Airvent's fan systems can be smaller, quieter and less-power hungry than traditional ones, while still being powerful enough to entrain air and smoke in spite of any structural beams/obstructions with the Car Park Ventilation system. Impulse Ventilation used in Car Park Ventilation include Jet fans and Impulse Fans.
The Airvent Solution
An Airvent system is tailored to the geometry of the building; everything from building materials to varying escape route distances are carefully taken into account by Airvent's expert designers. Strategically-placed dampers and ventilators enable the system to compartmentalise or extract smoke away from escape routes and fire-fighter access areas, while ensuring correct pressurisation or smoke extraction utilising the Airvent Shaft Master Systems.
The Airvent Solution
Airvent's integrated systems include temperature and rain sensors for environmental conditions. In a fire condition these are overridden by the fire detection system or Fireman’s override panel. As smoke rises within the building, smoke curtains can lower from the ceiling to form smoke zones or fixed smoke curtains can be utilised to create high level smoke zones. This prevents smoke cooling and lowering to cause a hazard to escape routes, and prevents lateral spreading to other parts of the building. Roof level smoke ventilators or smoke extract fans can then remove the excess heat and toxic smoke from the building.
The Airvent Solution
Shaft Master
The solution may integrate: fixed or automatic fire or smoke curtains to restrict smoke flow or direct smoke into local high level smoke zones. Powered or natural smoke ventilators can be utilised to extract smoke from the shopping mall or atria. The ventilation system can be controlled by our intelligent and addressable Intelli-Vent Control system which is normally activated by the fire alarm system in the system.
Extraction fans
In Airvent's systems, the fans direct air and smoke toward primary extraction fans, sited to discharge smoke from the building, enabling smoke clearance.
Sentry/Guardian fans
Impulse Ventilatin
Airvent's axial and centrifugal fans are tested to withstand fire conditions for up to two hours, and despite their size are powerful enough to negate the baffling effects of structural features on airflow, improving fire fighter access and visibility.
Fire
Vehicle fires are not uncommon, and in a packed car park can easily spread. With so much flammable material in one place, it's important that fire fighters be able to control the blaze, quickly.
Entrained air and smoke
Airvent's fan systems are powerful enough to create a zone of entrained air and smoke, controlling the direction and speed of the smoke's flow and preserving escape routes.

Smoke shaft
Smoke Shafts are untilised for positive Pressurisation systems or Mechanical or Natural Smoke extraction system utilising the Airvent Shaft Mater solutions. The fans or ventilators will draw the smoke up the builders work shaft and out of the building to atmosphere.
Enforcer damper (closed)
In a fire condition the Enforcer damper will open on the fire floor to allow smoke to be extracted out of the building. All other Enforcer dampers will remain closed on the non fire floors.

Escape route
Corridor Ventilation
Preserving the escape route (and fire fighter access) for as long as possible is the key goal for a smoke control system in an apartment building. These areas generally include stairwells and lobbies.
Fire
There are dozens of ways a fire can start in a residential building, and in spite of fire doors smoke will inevitably spread as residents make their escape. Airvent's systems are purposely built for smoke clearance and smoke control, providing easier access for fire fighters.
Safeguard
The louvered Safeguard can extract significant volumes of air and smoke within an impressively short period of time, and is one of a number of Airvent products suitable for this application. As well as our expert systems like the Safeguard, Airevent offer maintenance and smoke louvre repair.
Smoke guard
Emergency smoke curtains can deploy from the ceiling during a fire, creating compartmentalisation of smoke, which prevents it from dropping to escape route heights.
Fire
Industrial settings often feature numerous flammable materials and chemicals, and with dangerous machinery all around, escape routes may be additionally complicated.
Escape route
A well-integrated smoke control system can even have a positive effect on the building's design, as escape routes can be made longer on account of the additional escape time the systems afford to site staff.
Inlet air
Open Smoke ventilators in non fire zones allow fresh air to enter the building replacing the air that has been consumed and entrained by the fire and smoke plume.
Smokeguard
Emergency smoke curtains can deploy from ceiling-mounted units during a fire, creating compartmentalisation of smoke, which prevents it from lowering to escape route heights.
Ranger ventilation window
Airvent's attractive, transparent bottom-hung Ranger window provides for both natural ventilation and removal of smoke and hot air.
Safeguard louvered ventilator
The louvered Safeguard can extract significant volumes of air and smoke within an impressively short period of time, and is one of a number of Airvent products suitable for this application. As well as our expert systems like the Safeguard, Airevent offer maintenance and smoke louvre repair.
Escape route
Large numbers of shoppers and staff, on foot and with restricted movement, must have the time to safely escape a building fire. Airvent's solutions guarantee this escape time.
Fire
A shopping centre fire is most likely to break out within a retail unit. Preserving escape routes for as long as possible is the objective of a smoke control system.
